(The putative author of The Book of Disquiet is ``Bernardo Soares, Assistant Bookkeeper in the City of Lisbon.'') Although he was raised in South Africa and educated in English, Pessoa held that ``my country is the Portuguese language'' this work shows the truth of that claim. A bookkeeper and journalist, he lived quietly in Lisbon and published much of his poetry under assumed names. Pessoa (1888-1935) is not well known outside of Portugal. The private meditations of one of modern Portugal's most celebrated poets and critics, set down pseudonymously in the form of a journal spanning some 20 years. ![]()

But Joan, rather than judging her for the high school scandal that landed Aria in California, encourages her to pursue her interests, interrogate her own perspectives, and look at things in new ways, leading Aria to both connect with her past and push her boundaries with art while she’s there. In A Scatter of Light, when recently graduated Aria West arrives at her eccentric artist grandmother Joan’s house in California for the summer, she’s upset that she’s not spending the summer on Martha’s Vineyard with her friends as planned and doesn’t expect the summer to come to much. Lo is unparalleled at invoking the teenage experience, where your feelings are huge and undefined and you don’t yet have the life experience to have perspective. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I listened to the audiobook and had a fantastic experience. ![]() In A Scatter of Light, Lo attempts to recreate that same sense of teenage discovery and feelings in a more recent decade and succeeds wildly. I was ecstatic when I heard that Malinda Lo was writing a loosely connected follow up to Last Night at the Telegraph Cub because Last Night at the Telegraph Club is a hugely important lesbian coming of age novel set in 1950s San Francisco Chinatown that A) I wish I had had access to as a teenager and B) I’m so happy the youths have access to today. ![]() ![]() But when I tried again, I got a guidebook, and now I know the tricks, like how to put fishing weights in their hands and feet, for instance. ![]() That was because I didn’t know what I was doing. You must be very crafty… One of the marionettes I made – she was sort of an aristocratic, prima donna type – my friend said like she felt like she was in the presence of a snake. I have one friend who finds them very scary. ![]() I knew I wanted to write about them long before I found the right story. You walked by them and you could feel their presence, with their beady eyes just fixed on you. I became fascinated by marionettes, which I first saw in Venice. ![]() But in writing those, I knew I needed to know more about puppets so I made some marionettes. One I abandoned, and the second I never finished. This is actually the third book I’ve written about puppets. ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments Finding Home by Jackie Weger![]() Rebecca Hollis has other ideas-lots of them! The main difference here is the nature of the words in that storge, philia, Eros are natural loves, while agape, which is “love given” has a higher level to it. The book then continues to address the different types of love. In this part there are also distinctions, between pleasures we need, and pleasures we appreciate. Lewis then moves on to explain the nature of pleasures. Differentiating between the need for love and the gift of love (which is God’s love). Lewis goes into depth about each aspect of love, he first starts by explaining the need for love. All different types are used in the bible to define different types of love and they are all greek words.īefore C.S.
